Radhe: Salman Khan’s Tryst With Eid; A Look At His Last Six Eid Releases
As Salman Khan fulfils his promise of coming on Eid for his fans with Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai, here’s a look at some of his previous Eid releases

In Bollywood, release dates are a sacred thing, and when it comes to holidays, some big stars have their favourites. Aamir Khan has his eyes set on Christmas releases with his films Ghajini and Dangal, happen to have released during the Christmas weekend. Even his next Laal Singh Chadha have had planned a Christmas release before Covid hit all plans for a six. Shah Rukh Khan likes to have Diwali releases with his films like Om Shanti Om and Happy New Year following that trend.
John Abraham also has a tryst with Independence Day, but if there is one actor who arguably has maintained a monopoly on a holiday, it’s Salman Khan on Eid. His fascination with the holiday started with Wanted in 2009, and since then, Salman and an Eid release by him have become an unspoken reality. Last year kind of threw that legacy into a fix due to Covid. But this year, even Covid couldn’t stop him from taking his legacy forward as against all challenges, Salman finally brought Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai to his audience today.
Here’s a look at his last six Eid releases:
Bharat (2019)
Before Radhe, this was Salman’s last Eid release. The film was originally developed with Salman and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and it would have reunited the Mujhse Shaadi Karogi pair after 11 years. However, due to her wedding with Nick Jonas, Priyanka opted out of the film weeks before the commencement of the shoot and Katrina Kaif stepped in to save the day. Bharat traced India's post-independence history from the perspective of a common man, played by Salman, and followed his life from the age of 8 to 70. The film received mixed reviews critically but commercially, it emerged as Salman’s biggest opening day release and a box-office hit.
Race 3 (2018)
Salman took forward the Race franchise, taking over Saif Ali Khan, with a new director, Remo D Souza, in its third instalment. The film was a highly awaited release of the year, but from the point of view of a Salman Khan Eid release, the film underperformed at the box-office. It also bagged negative reviews critically, but the meme market had a field day with the film and its dialogues, especially, “Our business is our business, none of your business”.
Tubelight (2017)
Tubelight was an attempt at Salman’s part to do something different. Directed by his Ek Tha Tiger director, Kabir Khan, the film was an adaptation of the 2015 American film Little Boy. Even with a cameo by Shah Rukh Khan, the film garnered negative reviews upon its release and is one of the lowest faring Eid release of Salman till date.
Sultan (2016)
Featuring Salman as a wrestler in a first time pairing with Anushka Sharma, Sultan is Salman’s one of the most successful Eid releases till date, commercially. Even a controversial statement by Salman before the film’s release couldn’t hamper the film and it was received well critically as well. Sultan was also his second film to enter the 300-crore club.
Bajrangi Bhaijan (2015)
Salman’s Eid releases are mainly made for the single screen audience and are commercial potboilers with lots of action and romance. However, when Bajrangi Bhaijan released, it was something that no one ever expected from a Salman Khan film. Hailed as one of the best films of Salman till date, critically and commercially, it was even in contention to be India’s representative at the Oscars in the International Film category. The story of an Indian man on a journey to reunite a Pakistani girl with his family across the border, touched the hearts of many and was Salman’s first film to enter the 300-crore club.
Kick (2014)
In 2014, Salman Khan came on Eid in his buddy Sajid Nadiadwala’s debut directorial Kick, opposite Jacqueline Fernandez. The duo became a common pairing later on, but this was where it all started and the film emerged a commercial success, giving a much-needed hype to Jacqueline’s career. The film also featured Salman as a singer with him giving voice to the song Hangover. The sequel of the film is already announced and is in the works, aiming an Eid 2023 release.
